Originally from Cuba, Dr. Bermudez has been affiliated with the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) since 1978. She is currently an associate vice-president for academic affairs at that institution. Dr. Bermudez is a widely published author of numerous peer reviewed journal articles and books. As a professor at UHCL, she is the recipient of a lifetime presidential award for her research accomplishments. Currently, she is a co-author in The Language of Literature series for grades 6-12. These series are widely used in the United States. Her research agenda has focused on cultural and linguistic diversity in the United States.
